Our Story

The Sway Butchers Shop is situated in the picturesque New Forest village of Sway, just 3 miles north of Lymington.

This Family Business is currently run by 6th Generation Master Butcher David West. Originally from North London where his Grandfather, Father and Uncles all had Butchers Shops, David arrived in Sway in the hot summer of 1976, and over the last 40 years, the business has become well known for Excellent Quality Produce.

We still believe in personal service at Sway Butchers, so if you require any advice on choosing a specific cut of meat for a recipe or to order something for the weekend, just give us a call at the shop and David or one of the team will be able to have a chat to sort your requirements.

Our Producers

Being established in Sway for 45 years, has enabled us to develop an excellent tried & tested supply chain to source our meat from Hampshire & Dorset, including many Local New Forest Small Holdings. These small non intensive farms specialise in grass fed Native Breeds & are run by families that care about animal welfare and the environment.

When in season we receive Pannage pigs these have run on the open forest devouring the acorns that are harmful to the New Forest ponies. This meat is considered a delicacy around the world and is a favourite amongst many top chefs.

Our Sausages

Using a guarded family recipe, handed down from David’s Grandfather, Sway Butcher’s have become very well known for their excellent sausages, winning many awards over four decades.

From Our Kitchen

Launched at the start of 2016 our own range of ‘From Our Kitchen’ pies, ready meals, quiches, sausage rolls, deserts & cakes made in our new state of the art kitchen! Freshly made and then frozen, our products do not contain any additives or preservatives. The secret of our success is not only the quality of the fillings which are made from scratch only using quality produce that you would find in your own home, but also the fact that we make all of the pastry, whether shortcrust or puff by hand.

We have decided to step back 50 years and start using paper wrapping to wrap our meat.

It is well known the damage that plastic is doing to the environment and at Sway butchers we actively look at ways to reduce our usage. We have replaced our plastic carrier bags with ones made from vegetable starch. In addition our plastic wrappings have been swapped for environmentally friendly, recyclable and biodegradable paper. Our customers are only too pleased to go ‘back in time’ for us to wrap their fresh meat in paper.

At Sway Butchers we pride ourselves on our high level of customer service and quality produce. We enjoy reading the many lovely comments and testimonials that we receive from our happy customers.

Whether working with a top chefs (Rick Stein to name one), flying our meat around the world to cater for yachts & private clients or in our shop we always focus on providing the best produce we can. It is always lovely to hear feedback, we value it immensely.
